The chemist’s primary role is to determine the presence or absence of controlled substances according to state and federal laws. Controlled substances typically encountered in the chemistry lab include, but are not limited to, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, cannabis, and pharmaceuticals. The Chemistry laboratory is accredited by the American National Standards Institute – National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for compliance with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025 standards.
