Person/Suspect Info Jarrel Carter

An article was recently published by the Sarasota Herald Tribune alleging deputies did not have probable cause for arresting a suspect for Resisting with Violence.

During the execution of a high risk narcotics search warrant on Feb. 28, 2019 at a residence suspected to have guns, SWAT team members met Jarrel Carter- the only one out of five suspects who failed to obey deputies orders. Prior to the portion of the incident shown in “the home security video,” Carter ignored verbal commands to place his hands in the air and get down on the ground, and reached toward his pants multiple times. He continued to place his hands toward his pants. As a result, deputies were forced to use a leg sweep tactic, and in the process Carter grabbed and twisted a deputy’s finger, causing that deputy to fall to the ground with him. Carter was then hand cuffed and arrested. He was uninjured and later booked in jail. The deputy required medical attention.

“Contrary to what was reported in the mentioned article, the search warrant was a carefully planned and executed operation. This is a personal and unjust attack on the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. If you don’t want the SWAT team at your house, don’t sell crack cocaine in our community.” – Sheriff Rick Wells

MCSO will continue to execute search warrants in the most efficient manner for the safety of those involved and our deputies.
