At around 3:30 pm on (1/19/19) deputies responded to a coordinate location (GPS) in the Edward W. Chance Reserve in response to two equestrians who had been lost for over four hours in the Reserve. MCSO's Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) team responded to the scene. Time was of the essence due to sunset quickly approaching. The Rural Community Policing Unit responded to the scene with a 4WD Mule. In total, the aerial mission lasted approximately 52 minutes. After searching the area, the two riders were located using the drone and then, once their position was established, the drone led deputies in the Mule to them where the successful rescue was concluded. Deputies led the stranded equestrians to safety.
